Raw Material Guidelines

To support informed and responsible material choices, the Raw Material Guidelines were developed in alignment with the latest regulatory updates and standards, focusing on the main categories of raw materials commonly used in the brand’s product portfolio.

Opportunity

The brand lacked a unified, up-to-date reference for evaluating and selecting raw materials. With increasing regulatory pressure, sustainability demands, and innovation in material sourcing, product development teams needed clear, structured guidance to ensure compliance and align with corporate values.

Solution

We developed the Raw Material Guidelines, a comprehensive document that organizes and evaluates the most commonly used raw materials in the brand’s production. The guidelines were designed with the following key goals:

  • Reflect the latest regulatory updates and industry standards.
  • Provide clear categorization of materials based on their origin and usage.
  • Support product teams in making informed, sustainable material choices.

Raw materials were categorized into three main groups:

  1. Biobased Materials
    • Includes both animal and non-animal origins.
    • Covers innovative materials derived from food industry by-products, fungal/bacterial fermentation, and man-made cellulosic fibers.
  2. Synthetic Materials
    • Both virgin and recycled.
    • Includes commonly used polymers such as Polyester, Nylon, Acrylic, Polyurethane, and PVC.
  3. Other Materials
    • Covers accessory and packaging materials.
    • Includes items like paper, crystals, non-precious metals, beads, horn, coral, and mother of pearl.

Each material or group of materials is presented in a dedicated chapter, organized to provide consistent information across categories, including:

  • Composition and origin
  • Environmental and social impacts
  • Regulatory compliance
  • Best practices for responsible sourcing

Outcome

Enhanced transparency and traceability within the product development process.

Standardized material assessment across all teams.

Improved regulatory alignment and risk mitigation.

Supported the brand’s sustainability goals by clearly identifying preferred and critical materials.
