Technical Trip to South Africa

Strategic Engagement in the South African Mohair Supply Chain

From 25 to 30 May 2025, SPIN360 will conduct a strategic and technical trip to South Africa. The initiative aims to perform an on-site evaluation of the entire mohair supply chain—including production farms, industrial processing facilities, auction houses, brokerages and sectoral institutions.

This mission is embedded in SPIN360’s long-term commitment to supporting clients and stakeholders in the development of sustainable, traceable, and resilient textile systems, grounded in empirical research and sectoral best practices.

Key objectives of the mission include:

  • Data collection in support of understanding the environmental impacts of farming with mohair as well processing, spinning and weaving.
  • Analyzing traceability frameworks and their integration at farm and factory level
  • Assessing animal welfare and biodiversity impacts across different farming systems
  • Identifying technological innovations in fibre processing and data management
  • Engaging with industry stakeholders to map potential areas for collaborative projects and technical assistance

The South African mohair sector presents a high-value context for testing and enhancing sustainability models aligned with global ESG standards and market demands.

We look forward to sharing our insight in the next weeks ahead.
